Analysis

HSBC Holdings PLC

Following the recent penetration of a long term bullish trendline, HSBA has since come under increasing selling pressure and is now threatened with a significant downturn period. A breakdown of the major support area at 880.5869.4s considered the trigger for such an event, which is likely to cause an initial rapid descent to 870, followed by a further drop to 816 thereafter. Despite the deteriorating outlook which is mirrored on the FTSE 100 relative chart, several strong bounces have already occurred from this important support area and as such, bears would be advised to wait until a decisive close below 869.4occurs before initiating short positions.

Nearest resistance stands at 926.5 from recent negative gap action and only a close above here would alter the bearish argument
